RCMP Meteghan Detachment is responsible for providing policing services to residents of the Municipality of Clare. Comprised of several small communities, Clare has a rich history with many area families tracing their roots back to Nova Scotia's Acadian settlers. Both English and French are widely used throughout the area, so all Detachment members are fully bilingual. The Municipality is also home to the Université Sainte-Anne, Nova Scotia's only French language university.

Consisting of six regular RCMP members and one detachment assistant, the Meteghan Detachment handles an average of 1,200 calls for service annually. These range from minor traffic violations to full scale criminal investigations. The Detachment relies on regional support services from Yarmouth to provide specialized assistance in areas such as forensic identification, major crime, and police dog services.

Community Programs

Detachment personnel are pleased to provide a variety of crime prevention services to our community. These include:

Anti-Bullying - This Community Policing initative uses a combination of presentations and videos at area schools to discuss bullying, its effects and ways to prevent it.

Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E) - This seventeen-week program teaches grade five students drug abuse and resistance strategies which emphasize awareness of peer pressure, avoiding violence and self-esteem issues.

Senior Safety Program - This program is designed to provide information to senior citizens on personal safety and security in the home through community workshops and individual home visits.
