Commissioner's Statement

As you are aware, there have been an unprecedented number of changes to our Senior Management Team over the last few months. I am confident that the new team is very strong and well positioned to lead the Force in continuing to provide high quality services to Canadians and advancing our ongoing efforts to bring about positive change in the RCMP.

I have had the honour of serving as Commissioner for almost four years and have decided that it will soon be time for me to move on to new challenges and to hand over to my successor the task of leading this remarkable and important national institution.

I have recently had the opportunity to discuss this with the Minister of Public Safety and the Clerk of the Privy Council and it has been agreed that the process to identify the next Commissioner will be initiated in the near future. I will continue in my current role until a new Commissioner is selected and will do all I can to ensure a smooth transition.

I would like to express my respect and admiration for the jobs you do and my gratitude for the support and many kindnesses that have been extended to me throughout my tenure as Commissioner.
